Junction Electronic Eyes (J-Eyes) is a system of surveillance cameras installed at major signalised junctions for traffic monitoring purposes.
What are the benefits of J-Eyes?
J-Eyes act as remote eyes for Operations Executives at the traffic control centre to spot and rectify causes of traffic congestion, thereby enhancing traffic flow at major road junctions.
How does J-Eyes work?
Surveillance cameras are mounted on special poles, street lampposts and traffic light poles at major road junctions. They are able to pan, tilt and zoom to capture video images of the traffic situation at junctions.
These images are sent to the traffic control centre, where the Operations Executives can monitor the traffic closely and implement appropriate actions.
Expanding coverage
J-Eyes have been implemented at more junctions to help Operations Executives monitor traffic situations more closely and implement appropriate responses. There are more than 315 cameras on the roads as of March 2012.
