VIGs prevent vehicles from veering off the road into oncoming traffic, crashing against solid objects or falling from higher ground.
In the event of a vehicle collision with the VIG, the VIG helps to absorb the impact and minimize the damage of the crash to the vehicle. The VIGs, located next to bridge columns and walls, will also deflect the colliding vehicles away, thereby protecting the motorist (and his vehicle) from hitting the hard structures. Even though there are safety features around that serve to enhance your safety while driving, you should not let your guard down (pun not intended) and always remember to drive carefully. |
