If you've ever played with Hot Wheels cars as a kid, and the likelihood is that you have, you'd probably want to drive one of them on the road. Your dream is conceptualised in the Los Nov 18 - 27 Angeles Auto Show.
GM, in conjunction with Mattel, has produced the first ever full-sized, real-life Mattel Hot Wheels special edition Chevrolet Camaro, which is on debut as a concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
When the die-cast metal cars first hit toy stores in 1968, the first Hot Wheels from the Mattel toy line was a 1:64-scale Chevrolet Camaro. Using that as a basis, Chevrolet and Mattel teamed up, supersized the model, and then built a one-off real life Hot Wheels 2012 Camaro.
The Hot Wheels Camaro, sprayed in brilliant green, was even displayed on a facsimile Hot Wheels orange plastic track at the show. It took many weeks before the automakers could get the car in this colour - starting with using a liquid metal solution over the primer, and spraying over layers of green tint to end up with a car that duplicates the Hot Wheels die-cast look.
The concept comes with ghosted Hot Wheels logo on the quarter panels, Hot Wheels badging on the ZL1 grille as well as the decklid. In the cabin, Hot Wheels cut-and-sew embroidered logos can be seen in the front seatbacks.
Other details include smoked-lens Euro-style taillamps, Euro-style rear rascia with new diffuser and exhaust bezels, ground effects, the ZL1 rear spoiler, six-piston front, two-piece rotors and four-piston calipers Brembo brakes.
To spice things up even more, Mattel is making a special edition 1:64-scale model of this concept which is being offered for sale through hotwheelscollectors.com. This will be the 18th such miniature Camaro. Some of the original Custom Camaro Hot Wheels miniature models are worth as much as US$3,000!
